Music

Music can connect us with God in ways that words alone may not. Music enlivens our spirits, moves our souls, and, along with the Word and Sacraments, is at the heart of the worship experience at The Church of the Pilgrimage.

Our talented Choir Director, outstanding Organist, and strong, balanced four-part (SATB) Choir support worship each Sunday September through June.  We sing music from classical to gospel to contemporary repertoire written by composers from Thomas Tallis to J. S. Bach, W. A. Mozart, Charles Gounod, Aaron Copland, K. Lee Scott, John Rutter, Natalie Sleeth, and Eric Whitacre.  Musicians playing guitar, clarinet, and string or jazz band instruments occasionally grace our services. The choir welcomes all singers to join for rehearsals (Wednesdays 7:30 - 9:00 p.m., Sundays 9:00 - 9:45 a.m.), and worship services.

The music played on our 3,002-pipe organ is a treasured part of worship services. Our Organist’s fine musicianship and the richness and versatility of our organ’s sound keep congregation members listening intently during worship service postludes. The organ was originally built by Woodbury and Company and installed in Fall River in 1894. It was extensively rebuilt by the Roche Organ Company after its move to Plymouth in 1988. Additional information about this exceptional instrument is provided here.
